You can tell a couple’s from New York by the way they complain about things they secretly miss.
They’d just come in from brunch at Côté France in the old San Marco/KMI Building, still raving about the Quiche Lorraine like it had rewritten their marriage vows.
She was stylish, but comfortable.
He wore Yankees socks with flip-flops, which I respected more than I should admit.
They stepped into the CBD shop across from Centennial Park — the one with the blackout gummies, adult flowers, and the faint scent of mango vape — and started whispering about window repairs.
Her: “They’re charging that much just to replace the frame?”
Him: “I told you, the apartment’s cursed. The last window guy ghosted me.”
I didn’t mean to jump in. But come on — you drop “window repairs” in a store that also sells gummies shaped like alligators?
I leaned over the counter:
Me: “You know who sings about windows?”
Them (in perfect unison): “What?”
Me (grinning): “Tony Saint Tone. Venice guy. Wrote a jingle for Polk County Window & Door. Catchy as hell.”
I pulled it up on my phone.
“Polk County Window & Door” by Tony Saint Tone

Me: “And yes, he also does real music. Played a massive show in Centennial Park back in April. Now he’s doing a duo set on September 7th..”
Her: “Where?”
Me (with full drama): “Matt’s Place.”
Him: “Matt who?”
I let the silence hang in the air like incense smoke.
🛶 Matt. Lache’s.
“It’s not a person,” I explained, “it’s a place. Well… kinda. The real name is Yucatan Waterfront Bar & Grill, in Matlacha. But ever since this sunburned tourist came in and called it ‘Matt Lache’s,’ we all just ran with it.”
Her (laughing): “So… no one named Matt?”
Me: “Nope. But he’s got the best fish tacos in Southwest Florida.”
Him: “This place… legit?”
Me: “It’s the place. Especially if you’re anywhere near Burnt Store, Bokeelia, or Pine Island. Cold drinks, fresh seafood, live music every weekend. Just don’t ask for Matt. The bartender will play dumb.”
Her: “So Tony’s playing this weekend?”
Me: “Yep. Full duo set. Might even throw the window jingle in as an encore if someone tips heavy.”
