Venice, Florida proudly hosted its inaugural Chili Champ Tailgating Annual Festival at Koworx Coworking Space in Venice, and what a sizzling success it was. Venice Nights celebrates the launch of this new tradition that brought together our community for bold flavors, friendly competition, live music, and true Southwest Florida tailgating spirit.

From the moment gates opened, the energy was electric. Families, friends, and chili lovers gathered under perfect January skies to enjoy a day filled with cook-off excitement and community fun. More than 13 competitor chili pots were entered, 25 local vendors lined the venue, and five food trucks kept everyone fueled with delicious eats and sides.


Record-Breaking Participation & People’s Choice

One of the biggest highlights of the day was the People’s Champ voting. With over 1,000 vote submissions, guests enthusiastically sampled the entries and cast their ballots for the crowd favorite.

After an intense and flavorful showdown, 2 Old Guys BBQ claimed the People’s Champ crown. Their crowd-pleasing chili captured both hearts and taste buds, earning them well-deserved bragging rights and a roaring round of applause.

Our panel of judges had a tough job, evaluating each entry based on taste, texture, creativity, and overall impression. The winners across categories truly showcased the talent in our local food scene.

Freestyle Category Winners

  • Suan Krenz (In Memory of Her Sister-in-Law) – A heartfelt and creative entry that embodied the spirit of freestyle innovation.
  • 2 Old Guys BBQ – A double win, adding a Freestyle honor to their People’s Champ title.
  • Goldrush BBQ – Bold, original flavors that stood out.
  • Sprouts Fresh – Michael Freedman – A fresh and inventive approach that impressed the judges.

Traditional Category Winners

  • Stacie Kaldy of Tri-Healthy – Classic chili elevated with local flair.
  • Dani T of Kismet – A timeless recipe with a modern edge.
  • Joe Cisneros of Blu’ Island Bistro – Professional execution of traditional style.

Spiciest Chili

  • Paul Kaldy of GBack Media – Bringing the heat and earning the title for hottest chili of the day.

Why the First Year Was a Massive Win

With over 13 competitors, 25 vendors, five food trucks, live rock performances by Junction 41 and Kismet, and more than 1,000 People’s Champ votes, the First Annual Venice Chili Champ Tailgating Festival proved to be an instant community favorite.
