Venice Nights: An Unforgettable Event for Veterans in Venice, Florida

When it comes to organizing events that bring people together, Paul Kaldy, a Navy veteran and proud Golden Shellback, has a knack for making them memorable. On November 9th, Centennial Park in Venice, Florida, will host a celebration like no other—Vets for Vets in Venice—an exciting, music-filled event for veterans, by veterans. From 2 to 9 PM, attendees can enjoy live music, connect with local veteran-owned businesses, and share in a sense of community.

For Paul, this event is more than just a concert; it’s about rekindling the camaraderie that many veterans miss after leaving the service. “One of the things I miss most about being in the military is the camaraderie,” Paul shares. “I’m just looking for more excuses to get a whole bunch of cool people together.”

But what makes this event even more special is its focus on giving back to the veteran community. Paul, along with his dedicated team, including Jayne Pigott (USNR) and Jena Murphy Robidas from FM Florida Station, has made it their mission to create an experience that brings veterans together while also supporting veteran-owned businesses and organizations.

“Vets for Vets” is designed to be a win-win for everyone. “If we’re able to get some veteran-owned businesses and veteran-related organizations to pass out information, it’s going to be a win-win for everyone,” Paul says with a smile. The goal is clear: build a community, offer support, and have a great time while doing it.

The Legend of the Golden Shellback: A Rare Naval Honor

Paul’s passion for bringing people together is rooted in his nine years of service in the Navy, where he achieved the rare title of Golden Shellback. This honor is given to sailors who cross the Equator and the International Date Line simultaneously—a secretive tradition that dates back centuries. It involves a time-honored initiation ritual that turns mere sailors into Shellbacks, and the even rarer Golden Shellbacks are said to hold the sea’s secrets within them. While we can’t spill all the details (after all, it’s a maritime tradition shrouded in mystery), it’s safe to say this naval rite of passage is no ordinary affair. For Paul, that sense of brotherhood is something he’s carried with him long after his Navy days.

A Day for Veterans—and the Entire Family

Wondering if you should bring the kids or your furry friends? The answer is a resounding yes! “You can bring your dog, bring the entire family—even your dog—just leave your politics at home,” Paul advises, emphasizing the event’s inclusive and laid-back atmosphere. It’s all about coming together, sharing stories, and enjoying great music. Don’t forget to bring a chair or blanket for comfort as you settle in for an afternoon of live entertainment.
